Real Eyes Realize Real Lies: Givenchy's Pre-Fall 2017

There are fundamentals of fashion that have trickled down from high fashion to become norms that most of us abide by without giving it a second thought. Obsessing with the color black as if he invented it and making it the definition of 'fashionable', Riccardo Tisci, creative director of Givenchy has been one of the greatest influencers of fashion in the past decade. His first collection for Givenchy, about twelve years ago, was the ultimate ode to the color black with floor length gowns, and shimmering, gothic tulle skirts. While Tisci's tenure at Givenchy has come to a close, his influence at Givenchy and in fashion continues to flourish. Tisci formulated the aesthetic foundation of Givenchy; an opulent, gothic streetwear that melded well into a generation that embraces street style. Givenchy's tribute to the creative director was a collection of his most memorable designs in red, the houses signature colour.

Givenchy's most recent collection the pre-Fall 2017, was done in the classic Tisci style with graphics, potent hues of color and streetwear closely drawn with haute couture. Dividing the collection into three styles [fashion, classic and street], there were fragments of each. Long silhouettes, lace, oversized cuts and bomber jackets with symbolic images and quotes like the infamous 'Real eyes, realize, real lies.' Tracksuits with yellow and red lining, pink fur with gingham dresses were a step away from the typical nuances of fashion. Soft fabrics, fur and butterfly prints with Givenchy bags and geode necklaces defined this collection along with Givenchy's ability to mix and layer the boldest styles into a muted perfection. Riccardo Tisci, said about the collection that “Even a woman who is more mature and classic loves to wear a bomber.' His perception of fashion and vision of changing style was the keynote of the collection. Givenchy's collection can adapt to its surroundings with minimal effort, an advantage with its aura of effortless style.
